Ideas for TV on the Wall

Some people want their television to be the focal point of a room's decor, a magnet for the gaze of visitors. Others want their television tucked away, out of sight. Regardless of which camp you are in, there are plenty of ways to achieve your ideal arrangement for your wall-mounted TV.

Cabinet

If you don't want your flat-screen television to be obvious in your room, mount it on your wall behind cabinet doors matching the decor of the rest of your room. Simply build the cabinet just deep enough to accommodate your television and any cords that it requires. Then close the doors when the television is not in use.

Frame

Add a decorative touch to the area surrounding your wall-mounted television by placing an oversized frame around it. It is a matter of personal taste whether you want the dimensions and shape to match your television or if you want the frame to be something completely different, such as a large oval or circular shape.

Recessed Wall

If you don't want your TV to stick out into your room, carve out a section of wall and hang the television in the recessed nook. For smaller televisions, you will only need to carve out the space between a pair of studs. Larger TVs will require more effort, since they won't fit between the studs. As for the front of the recessed space, install a door or curtain if you want the TV to be less obvious.

Paint Block

A block of a separate color of paint behind a wall-mounted television can either draw attention to it or help it sink back into the wall. A bolder color, or a lighter or darker shade of paint that has a high contrast with the primary paint color will draw attention directly to the television.
