How to Hang an LCD TV on a Wall

As the retail price plummeted, LCD and plasma TVs became increasingly popular. Wall mounts for the televisions are also popular because of the stylish look they provide. Wall mounts use heavy bolts and wall anchors to secure a flat-panel TV to the wall. The installation process will vary slightly depending on the model and brand name of the TV.

Instructions

    1

Use a stud finder to mark the framing studs on the wall where the LCD TV will be mounted. Mark the studs with a pencil to keep track of their location.

    2

Place the mount on the wall so that the marks for the studs line up with the holes on the wall mount. With a pencil, mark which holes line up with the studs. Most mounts will have multiple mounting locations so that they can be used with a wide variety of televisions.

    3

Use the level to make sure you place the pencil marks along the same line. Once you line up the mounting holes together, drill small holes all the way into the studs with a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the mounting bolts.

    4

Insert the wall anchors, if applicable, into the wall. Wall anchors are used to hold heavy items without damaging the drywall.

    5

Use the supplied Allen bolts to secure the wall mount to the drywall. The bolts should go all the way into the framing studs. Depending on the wall mount, the bolts may also be hex bolts, which will require a ratchet and socket rather than Allen wrench.

    6

Measure the distance between the mounting holes on the back of the television. Distances will vary depending on the model of your LCD TV. These holes will be used to secure the TV to the mount, so it is important to make sure that the holes are lined up before you try to install the TV. Adjust the mounting plate if necessary.

    7

Hold the LCD TV up to the mount and attach 9/16 inch bolts into the mount. There will be at least four bolts that hold the TV to the mount.
