How to Mount a TV on a Shared Wall

Mounting a television onto a shared wall, like that separating two apartments, is no different than mounting it on a regular wall. The wall construction is identical in both cases. To ensure the best possible mount, attach the television to a wall mount that is secured to the studs in the wall.

Instructions

    1

Use a stud finder to locate the studs in the wall at the television mounting location. Mark these with a pencil.

    2

Hold the wall-mounted portion of the television mount against the wall and line up the mounting holes with the stud locations. Place a level on the top edge of the mount to ensure proper alignment. Mark the mount's hole locations on the wall with a pencil and remove the mount.

    3

Drill 1/8-inch holes at the marked locations. Place the mount on the wall and insert 2-inch wood screws into the holes in the mount and into the pilot holes you just drilled. Tighten the screws to hold the mount against the wall.

    4

Place your television face down on a carpeted surface. Place the second part of the wall mount on the television and line up the mounting holes of the mount with the television's mounting holes. Insert the bolts supplied with the mount into the holes and tighten with an Allen wrench or socket set, depending on the bolt type.

    5

Lift the TV up and slide the mount portion attached to the television into the wall-mounted portion.
