How to Install a Wall Mount CRT TV

Mounting a TV to a wall creates extra floor space. Attaching a cathode ray tube TV to a wall requires a securely connected mounting assembly and a sturdy wall. Wall mounts are two-piece assemblies; one that connects to the wall and another that connects to the back of the TV. This allows the CRT TV to be removed for cleaning and servicing as necessary.

Instructions

    1

Choose a location for the wall mount. Be sure that the space chosen is big enough to fit the CRT TV with plenty of room around it for installation. Also, consider comfortable placement for viewing and the location of wall studs for secure placement and mounting on the wall.

    2

Locate the studs in the wall where you need the CRT mounted. Use a stud sensor to find the studs and mark their location. Install the mount into sturdy wall studs to ensure that the CRT is secure and will not pull free.

    3

Lift the mounting bracket plate up to the wall and locate the studs that best align with the screw holes. Mark the exact location for the screws over the studs. Use a drill to pre-drill holes through the drywall and into the studs. Place 2-inch lag screws or bolts through the bracket and into the holes. Secure the screws tightly with a drill, or use a socket wrench on the bolts.

    4

Place the CRT TV face down on a firm, flat surface. Lay it down carefully, preferably under some padding, to get access to the back of the TV. If the TV has a mounting stand connected, remove the mounting screws and place the stand aside.

    5

Connect the TV mounting plate to the back of the unit. Secure the plate tightly to the back with the included screws using a screwdriver. Ensure that the screws are properly installed into the back of the TV and that they fit snugly.

    6

Raise the TV up to the wall mount and fit it over the secured bracket. Have an assistant help you lift the TV safely into place to avoid dropping it or straining yourself physically. Lock the mechanism that joins the wall bracket and TV mounting plate so that there is no danger of the TV slipping free of the wall mount.
