How to Mount an LCD TV With a Cable Box

Wall mounts for televisions are not new. However, the types of televisions secured to the wall mounts have changed. With televisions no more than four inches thick, wall mounts have become much more common. One issue that arises from mounting a flat screen LCD TV to the wall is where to put the components, such as a cable box, DVD player or a game system in relation to the TV. Install a wall mount TV stand with shelves to resolve the issue. These easy to find mounting systems come designed with slots and holes to help hide the cables needed to connect the components.

Instructions

    1

Separate the back of the bracket, or the part that attaches to the wall, from the front of the bracket, if applicable. In most cases, this part of the bracket comes in two pieces. Locate the mounting screw holes on the back of the TV set. Line up the screw holes on the left and right side of the set to keep the bracket level and secure it to the TV.

    2

Mount the back of the bracket onto the front of the bracket. Note the distance from the bottom edge of the set to the bottom part of the wall mount section of the bracket. This tells you where to install the bracket onto the wall for the desired height.

    3

Locate two, side-by-side studs in the desired location for the TV with a stud finder. Mark the center of the stud as best you can. Measure from the floor up and mark the wall over a stud for the bottom edge of the TV. Measure up from that mark and make another mark representing the bottom edge of the wall mount bracket.

    4

Measure the distance between the vertical mounting holes in the bracket and mark them on the stud. Place a carpenter's level on the marks and draw a faint line over to the other stud. Mark the wall in the center of that stud as well.

    5

Drill pilot holes through the drywall and into the studs with a 1/16-inch drill bit. Remove the wall part of the mounting bracket from the TV and secure it to the wall with the provided screws. Place the carpenter's level on the bracket and make any adjustments needed.

    6

Secure the TV mounting bracket to the wall-mounting bracket with the supplied bolts and nuts and/or screws. Attach the shelves under the TV, according to the manufacturer's instructions. Feed the cables through the holes or slots in the mounting bracket to connect the cable box to the TV.
