How to Wall Mount Your Flat Screen TV
Wall mounting a flat screen TV is a relatively easy thing to do. Most wall mounts take roughly 30 minutes to install if you know what you're doing. Wall mounts come in an array of designs, but most are installed using the same method.
Instructions
- 1
Identify wall studs. Wall studs are the two-by-fours that frame the walls of your house. Wall mounts should be secured to these wall studs as an anchor to bear the weight of the flat screen TV. Identify where the wall studs are by using a stud finder or by physically knocking on the wall to identify the hollow and solid parts of the wall. The studs are the solid parts of the wall.
2Level your wall studs. Once you have identified your wall studs, using a pencil make a dot where you plan to drill holes for the mounting screws per the spacing on your wall mount. Make sure you use a level or some type of ruler to make sure that the holes you plan to drill are even across the mount bracket.
3Attach the mount's back plate. Most TV wall mounts come with two plates. The first attaches to the wall, and the second attaches to the back of your TV. Screw in the wall mount plate into the places you penciled into the wall using the screws that came with the mount. Once the wall mount is attached to the wall, attach the TV mount plate to the back of your TV per the specific instructions for your wall mount style.
4Connect both pieces together. Once the wall mount plate and the plate to the back of your TV have been installed, simply attach the two together. Find someone to help you lift the TV to attach it into place. Generally the back of the TV mount has a series of hooks that will grab on to the wall mount. You will know when they are secured as the hook and locking mechanism will latch together and bear the weight of the TV.
