How to Adapt TV Wall Mounts to an LCD TV

An LCD TV is lightweight enough to be mounted to a wall. To adapt a TV wall mount to a non-standard LCD TV's back, purchase a TV mount that is adjustable. The TV mount will adapt to the back of the TV, unlike a regular mount which has a fixed width. The mount can be purchased at select home and garden shops. A few household tools will be required.

Instructions

    1

Hold the TV mount against the wall at the height you would like the LCD TV to be at when you are done mounting it. Mark a dot on the wall through the top left and top right holes in the mount with a pencil. Place the mount aside.

    2

Place a stud finder over one of the dots on the wall. Push the stud finder toward the right until the needle on the finder twitches. Make an "X" at this point. Repeat this procedure with the other dot.

    3

Place the TV mount against the wall, lining up the top left/right holes with the "X" marks. Screw wood screws into the wall through the holes in the mount using a Phillips screwdriver. Screw wood screws into the wall through the bottom left/right holes in the mounts using the Phillips screwdriver.

    4

Loosen the set screws on the adjustable mounting bracket with your fingers. Place the bracket against the back of the LCD TV. Pull the bracket apart until it is the same width as the back of the TV. Tighten the set screws on the bracket with your fingers. Tighten the set screws further with the jaws of a pair of pliers until resistance is felt.

    5

Line up two top holes in the bracket, one on the left and the other on the right, with the mounting screw holes on the back of the LCD TV. Screw metal screws through the bracket and into the TV using a Phillips screwdriver.

    6

Loosen the screws on each side edge of the wall mount with your fingers. Place the back of the TV up against the wall mount. Insert the extruded rods on each side of the bracket into the grooves on each side of the wall mount. Push the bracket down into the mount. Tighten the screws with your fingers and then with the jaws of pliers until resistance is felt.
