How to Mount a Wall Mount to Brick

Flat-panel plasma and LCD televisions offer the user many more placement opportunities than were possible with old-style cathode ray tube televisions. Placing a flat-panel TV on the wall is a popular option, and a wall mount makes this a fairly easy task. But some surfaces are easier to install a wall mount on than others. If you want to hang your television on a brick wall or fireplace, you'll need to install the wall mount properly.

Instructions

    1

Hold the rear portion of the wall mount --- the part that is installed on the wall --- against the wall in your preferred position. An assistant may be useful here. Place a level on the top edge to ensure that it's straight, and then mark the position of the mounting holes on the wall with a pencil. Mark at least four of the mounting holes for a secure anchorage.

    2

Drill a hole into the bricks at the location of each of the marks. The holes should be the same size as the masonry anchors you'll be inserting into the holes. Push a masonry anchor into each of the holes and tap it all the way in with a rubber mallet.

    3

Place the base of the wall mount onto the wall, lining up the holes with the anchors. Insert your screws into the holes and anchors and tighten the screws until they're all the way in. Repeat for each of the anchors you've installed.
