How to Install a Large Screen TV Mount

Large screen TVs are now the standard in homes, office buildings and restaurants, and most people and places choose install them on a wall. Installing a large screen TV on the wall properly provides stability and security; installing it improperly could be disastrous.

Instructions

    1

Determine the type of TV mount you need for your large screen TV. TV mounts come in small, medium and large. The size is based on the weight of the TV. Generally, any TV over 36 inches requires a large TV mount.
TV mounts also come in three different positions: full motion, tilt motion and flat mount. Full motion provides the ability to move the large screen TV side to side and up and down. Tilt motion moves the TV up and down. Flat mounting does not allow you to move the TV at all.

    2

Determine the location for the TV. Will the TV be placed on a large empty wall or will the TV be placed on a small wall or possibly between windows? Keep in mind:
-- The TV should be free from possible obstructions if it is to move back and forth or up and down.
-- The TV should have access to a good power supply. Avoid overloading an electrical outlet.
-- The TV should not be near a heat source or water source.

    3

Install the wall mount as follows:
-- Secure the base mount tightly to the wall. Make sure the holes for the base mount are drilled into the wall beams (studs). The base mount supports the weight of the TV, so it must be very secure.
-- Secure the arm mount to the base mount (if applicable). Make sure the arm is secured tightly. The arm mount allows you to move your TV back and forth.
-- Attach the TV brackets to the back of the TV. Slide the TV into the TV mount arm. Make sure the brackets snap into place.
-- Check to make sure all screws, bolts, nuts are tight before leaving the TV to stand on its own.
-- Attach the wires to the back of the TV and to the home theater components.
