Wall Mount Ideas for LCD TVs
When it comes to flat-screen TVs, there are two types of people in the world: those who think a flat-screen TV is itself a thing of beauty, and those who think it's an ugly black rectangle that's best kept out of sight when not in use. For the former group, a simple wall mount, fixed or articulating, is a very cool thing. For the latter group, creating a mask or frame that otherwise covers the TV is more appealing, and frames, transparent mirrors and tapestry covers present a visual alternative.
Note that price ranges are current as of late 2009.
Simple Flat-Screen Wall Mounts
Fixed mounts, $25 to $95, attach the TV flush to the wall with a plate that mounts to the wall and brackets that attach to the back of the TV and hook onto the wall plate.
Angled mounts, $35 to $150, have cuts in the bracket metal that allow the TV to be angled down up to 15 degrees for better viewing angles.
Articulating mounts, $85 to $195, allow the flat screen to both be pulled forward from the wall and/or turned about 30 degrees to either side for additional viewing positions.
Motorized articulating mounts, $150 to $1,000, allow for all articulating movements by remote control. These include lifts that raise the TV from cabinets.

Out-of-Sight Wall Mount TV Coverings
These are a lot like pull-down windows shades. Motorized and adapted for flat-screen dimensions, they roll up when you want to watch TV or roll down when the TV is not in use. They sport works of art as graphics, as well as custom photos or logos. Cost is around $1,000.
Cover panel assemblies with removable sections offer a mid-priced customizing option around $500.
Transparent Mirror Coverings and Frames
Transparent mirrors with wood frames in varying styles mask flat-screen TVs when they're not in use. When a TV with this covering is turned on, the mirror "disappears," leaving just the frame visible.
Frames themselves can also create more artistic borders for the flat screen. Prices are approximately $1,000 for a 42-inch screen.
